You will be asked to make suggestions on how these policies could be improved.

You will apply a social theory to discuss how sexism and heterosexism are embedded in social institutions. You will evaluate how inequality is created and maintained by social institutions. You will be asked to think carefully about current policies in place to prevent discrimination and bias against women and against members of marginalized sexual and gender orientations. You will be asked to make suggestions on how these policies could be improved.
For this activity, you will identify one area where sexism or heterosexism is evident in one of the key social institutions you have studied. You will find a current event article from a local, national or international news source that details an institutional act of sexism or heterosexism. This might include laws that allow women or the LGBTQA community to be treated unfairly, reports on differences in pay or hiring practices, publicized violations of Title IX, or any other act that appears biased that is committed by an institution. For example, several years ago, the Boy Scouts of America (an institutionalized group) came under fire for refusing to allow gay men to serve as troop leaders. This is an example of heterosexist bias. Recently, the Pope made a statement that women were allowed to nurse their infants in any Catholic church during Mass; this was due to some parishes banning public nursing. Banning public nursing is an act of gender bias. Be sure that you are discussing an institutional act and not an individual act of bias. You will describe the event that you have chosen. You will then apply key sociological concepts and theories to your discussion of this event. You will also apply a social theory to explain why this institutional practice exists. The theory you pick will be the one that best fits your world view (structural functionalism, Conflict, Symbolic Interaction, Feminist or Queer Theory). You will review the positive (social stability) and negative (social dysfunction) consequences of this practice. Your review and analysis will focus on the structure of society and not on the individual. You will support your arguments with appropriate outside sources as needed.
please write an approximately 750 words of text (approximately 3 pages of double-spaced, 12-point font of text) essay addressing the following question prompts. A references list should make up an additional page.
1. Briefly summarize the article that you have selected. Provide the specifics of the act and which social institution is engaged in the act.
2. Provide a theoretical explanation for why the act occurred. This must be a structural explanation that focuses on the institution. Use the theory that best fits your understanding of the act.
3. Discuss how this act was managed. For example, if it was illegal, what were the legal sanctions against the institution? If not illegal, what was the public response?
4. Finally, suggest policy changes that might prevent future occurrences of this act.

This is an individual paper; however, you should reflect on our discussion forums and incorporate ideas from there as appropriate.

In a 5 page paper, explore a workplace organization and their policies around diversity. Analyze the diversity of the organization and develop a report about how you would bring a new workshop, event, or speaker series to the organization to enrich their approach to diversity. If the organization has a great program already in place, think about how you might contribute to what they already have.
Choose a workplace organization (the one you’re employed with or perhaps one you would like to work for) and review their policies on embracing diversity. A good place to research this information is on a company’s human resources page. You can also look at some public information data for an organization on the Glass Door (Links to an external site.) website. If your organization is a public organization (college, university, government employment agency, or nonprofit), that information will be public and on the organization’s website.
• For this assignment, you should focus on race and ethnicity, because this Module deals with race and ethnicity, but note also that diversity includes ability, age, religion, gender, sexuality, etc.
• Consider how this event might help the organization’s staff use their creativity and awareness to imagine a community which truly values diversity.
• Brainstorm what this community would be like if they had an environment that truly valued racial and ethnic diversity, based on the research you conducted.
• Feel free to explore different sorts of diversity activities listed on the Internet, but you must come up with your own activity.
• Conduct research using scholarly sources to review Affirmative Action policies regarding education and employment as well as making sure you have done all of the reading for this week before completing your assignment.
Instructions:
• Write a 5-page paper or about 1500 words, not including the title and reference pages, which are required. Be sure to incorporate a clear explanation of your proposed activity in the body of your paper, with detail, context, and analysis. This is important.
• Your paper must be properly cited and formatted
• Include a formal References page. This is an individual paper; however, you should reflect on our Discussion Forums and incorporate ideas from there as appropriate.
• You must support your analysis with at least three scholarly references and can include resources from this course. Sources such as Wikipedia, USA Today, Fox News, or MSNBC news will not be accepted

Elliott, sociology of climate change as a sociology of loss

The response papers are 1-2 double-spaced page written assignments that require you to engage with the course material to develop an argument of your own. Each paper should cover one week’s material and can cover any week before its due date and after the previous due date. This allows some element of choice in topic while also requiring steady progress and ensuring timely feedback.

B) initial analysis of critical individuals: you should provide an initial overview of key individuals or groups

“The course project is designed for you to do a thorough review, analysis, and reflection on key dynamics of innovation that characterize a particular technology trajectory, field, firm, or governance institution.”
This will be the first part of the project (short 3 page paper)
“Develop a case study of the origins of the firm, its developmental trajectory, internal practices and culture, and how those appear to relate to their technological successes and failures. What networks did the firm rely upon (if any) as it developed? How does it structure R&D and product development? What kinds of relations does it have with external parties? How does it compare to others within its field? The idea, again is to isolate what you believe the evidence suggests are key factors that contributed to a firm’s direction.”
I have chosen Meta Research (Facebook) AR/VR
“Stage One/Paper 1: Background and Overview
Your initial paper is an introduction to your topic that provides a general overview of the technology/firm/
agency/innovation environment you have selected. Your goal is to survey the technology/firm/agency in
question and to provide an initial overview of key issues. The paper would typically include:
a) A concise introduction to your focal point: concisely summarize the history and central issues, developmental obstacles, and/or debates that have surrounded your case. How did the technology develop, or how did the firm/agency start? What part of the firm/agency/technology’s trajectory are you going to focus upon, if your topic has an extended history? Are there controversies, divisions, or disputes that have characterized your firm’s/the technology’s/the agency’s development? Are there any debates concerning social or economic effects?
b) Initial analysis of critical individuals: You should provide an initial overview of key individuals or groups
involved in your case. If you are studying an innovative firm: who are the key actors? What are their backgrounds? Where did they come from (other firms, universities, government labs, etc.)? How is the firm organized? Does it do most/all of its R&D internally? Or does it collaborate with other ventures? If a
government agency, how do their operations generally proceed? Who do they typically work with, if relevant? How big is their budget? What is the agency monitoring and oversight process? How do they deal with risk? If you are focused on a technology, you should do your best to characterize what the literature says about its emergence. Did it come from one innovator, or a firm? From a “network” of related parties? From a series of unrelated breakthroughs that came together? Did it involve a radical breakthrough, or a series of incremental innovations? If you are reviewing a policy or larger set of institutions, you shouldprovide an overview of your focal point, key actors or events, and an initial assessment of what you believe to be relevant aspects of
the policy environment.
Your paper should be approximately 3 pages in length, not including bibliography, with standard 1 inch margins
and 12 point font Times New Roman. Please use ASA format for your bibliography.
Note that I recognize that detailed answers to the above queries could be 10+ pages in length. My expectation is that you will be able to focus your descriiption on a limited set of central, relevant issues and adequately summarize what may be very complex topics. This is not a FINAL paper (although I do expect it to be well-written, and accurate), but an initial background. You can also briefly note more peripheral issues, or ongoing puzzles or open questions you’d like to address moving forward.”
