Followed by answering 4 questions on the chapter.

Hi Writer. Please read “Folktale Liberation” a chapter of Alison Lurie’s, Don’t Tell the Grown Ups. I’ll attach the chapter. Followed by answering 4 questions on the chapter.
1) What classes of people are most celebrated and affirmed in fairy tales according to Lurie’s account?
2) She speaks of various critics of fairy tales, what according to her has been the general argument against the traditional fairy tales being made available to children?
3) How does she characterize fairy tale heroines? Does she see them as Andrea Dworkin sees them in “Woman Hating”?
4) According to her who were the original creators of fairy tales? What was the difference between them and the scholars who later came to collect the fairy tales?

Hi Writer! Write four points where you give four sets of oppositions between Andrea Dworkin (Woman Hating) and Alison Lurie’s (Don’t Tell The Grown-Ups/Folktale Liberation) views of fairy tale heroines. I’ll attach a file for both texts.
Here’s an example (please follow this format):
1. Dworkin: Men are either saviors, or high-born absent fathers in fairy tales
Lurie: Fairy tales support the rights of the disadvantaged, and poor

Revise and edit to achieve a clear rhetorical purpose and to meet audience needs.

Purpose:
Your second writing assignment for this semester asks you to compare and contrast two of the stories we’ve read so far. This means you will be examining the similarities and differences between the two. In comparing the two texts, you might reveal something unexpected that you wouldn’t have found otherwise. Outside sources aren’t necessary for this essay but you may use them to help in your analysis. Below are assignment details to guide you.

Goals:
Produce a clearly organized essay that compares and contrasts a common element (or elements) from two short stories
Generate a clear thesis statement that references both stories
Use textual evidence from the story to back up your points (at least one direct quotation from each story).
Revise and edit to achieve a clear rhetorical purpose and to meet audience needs.
Practice the standards of MLA formatting.

The Assignment
Choose two of the stories that we’ve read so far during the semester to compose a compare/contrast response. Find content, themes, characters, setting, structure, POV, symbolism, imagery, writing styles, major ideas, etc. shared by the two stories and discuss and explain the similarities and differences in how the stories portray them and why that similarity or difference might be significant. Remember to remain focused: it is far better to focus on a single element the stories share than to simply make a list of all the similarities and differences between the two. For example, you might focus on a theme shared by two stories and how that theme is represented in either, or you might do a compare/contrast of a major character in each and how they approach their struggles differently.
While some summarization is necessary, you don’t need to retell the entire plot of the stories. Don’t forget to use supporting quotations and textual evidence from each story to back up your ideas.

Getting Started
A good starting point might be to map out the themes shared by each of the stories we’ve read this semester and start from there.

Criteria
This essay should include an original title, an introduction that introduces the stories and the shared qualities to the readers, body paragraphs that summarize and compares and contrasts these qualities, and a conclusion that summarizes the key points and explains what the reader should take away from these comparisons and/or something new that was discovered through these comparisons.

Formatting:
MLA Format, Double-Spaced, 12-Point Font
Primary (& Secondary if applicable) sources cited in MLA with separate works cited page.

Length: ~750 words
Grading Rubric:
The essay includes an original title (10 points)
The introduction gives context and touches on the shared qualities of the stories (10 points)
The body paragraphs include a thorough comparison of the stories including what similarities and differences they share (20 points)
The author uses evidence from the text to back up their points (20 points)
The conclusion summarizes the key points and brings closure to the essay (10 points)
The essay is coherent and well-organized (10 points)
The essay shows evidence of proofreading for spelling, grammar, and syntax (10 points)
The author uses MLA formatting and includes a Works Cited page (10 points)
I have attached both stories
